Academy Seal
Coming in 2012

One of the most comprehensive curriculums anywhere.

It is the mission of The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts to offer to its students a rigorous and meaningful path for those who have an interest in the arts. Through a carefully selected course of study, students gain the knowledge to best prepare them for post-secondary advanced studies or for a more streamlined method to enter arts related occupations.

The Academy is comprised of six unique discipline strands to facilitate a dedication to lifelong learning. These include: visual art, graphics and multimedia, instrumental music, vocal music, dance and theatre arts. Aesthetic perspective, creative expression, culture and history, analysis and criticism are the unifying elements within each discipline. By the same token, students will select the area of discipline that appeals to them and as they continue through the program burgeoning skills will become self-evident. Through this journey of self-discovery, students will apply real-life problem-solving skills to the cross-curricular courses they encounter.

It is through this vision we establish purpose, instill pride and empower performance in the arts.

Program Highlights:

NAHS LogoThe Mountain Pointe Visual Arts has three outstanding Clubs that offer students who are interested in Art outside of the classroom an opportunity to further skills and participate in Community Service activities. Joining one of our clubs brings the opportunity to earn an academic letter in Art. We are very proud of our lettering program and encourage as many students as possible to participate. At this time we offer three clubs for our students, art, ceramics and photo, all of which are affiliated with the National Art Honor Society (NAHS).

The Mountain Pointe High School Theatre Company offers a multitude of perfomance opportunities for students including the annual presentation of five mainstage productions. MPTC has received the rank of "superior" in the Central Arizona Acting Festival and the Southern Arizona Acting Festival. We have received the rank of "superior" in the Arizona State One Act Festival in 2003, 2005 and 2006, and "excellent" in 2004 and 2007. Our improvisation troupe, Rebels Without Applause, offers monthly performances throughout the school year.
