Technology Use Agreement

Technology is available in the Tempe Union High School District (TUHSD) through the use of a voice, video and data network for access by students, faculty and staff.

We are very pleased to bring access to technology in the TUHSD and believe the use of technology offers vast, diverse, and unique resources to our students, faculty and staff. The goal in providing this service to students, faculty and staff is to promote educational excellence in schools by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, and communication using the available technological resources.

A portion of the resources available in the TUHSD provides for access to the Internet. The Internet is an electronic highway connecting computers and users worldwide. Students, faculty and staff have access to:

1) electronic mail communication with individuals and organizations throughout the world.

2) information and news from multiple commercial, non-profit and governmental organizations.

3) public domain/freeware software and shareware.

4) discussion groups on various topics.

5) numerous data bases covering various topics for research.

With access to computers and people all over the world also comes the availability of material that may not be considered to be of educational value in the context of our school setting. TUHSD has taken reasonable precautions to restrict access to controversial materials. However, on a global network it is nearly impossible to control all materials. Therefore, an industrious user may discover information which may be deemed controversial or inappropriate in our school setting. We, TUHSD, firmly believe that the valuable information and interaction available on this worldwide network far outweigh the possibility that users may procure material that is not consistent with the educational goals of our school and community.

Internet access is coordinated through a complex association of government agencies, and regional and state networks. In addition, the smooth operation of the network relies upon the proper conduct of the end users who must adhere to strict guidelines. These guidelines are provided here so that you are aware of the responsibilities you are about to acquire. In general this requires efficient, ethical and legal utilization of the network resources. If a TUHSD user violates any of these provisions, his or her account will be terminated and future access can be
