We are currently collecting new and gently used dresses and accessories from now until Friday, February 24th for the Cinderella Affair prom dress drive.  Please drop off any donations in the donation box located in the front office.

 

NHS meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 15th!  Please plan to bring $4 to pay for your NHS shirt.  The meeting will be before school at 7:15 a.m. or after school, like always.  Let other members know of the meeting.  See you there!

The matchmaker results are finally here.  If you want to know who is on your list, pick up matchmaker Monday, or Tuesday-before school, at lunch, and after school for $2.  Support Prom and buy the matchmaker results for $2 under the ramada on Monday or Tuesday. 

 

All sophomores and juniors, who are interested in applying for the Cosmetology program at EVIT, need to turn in your packets by February 27 at EVIT.  If you do not have a packet or have any questions, please come to the guidance office.

Tomorrow, our school joins 25,000 schools nationwide in the Pasta for Pennies program.  For the next 2 weeks, HERO will help people who are sick with Blood Cancers like leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.  All you have to do is collect coins and other donations and put them in your 3rd Hours classroom's collection box.  Remember that EVERY penny counts!  Our goal is to raise $1500.  The 3rd hour that raises the most will win an Olive Garden Pasta Party...

Jostens will be on campus tomorrow and Wednesday at lunchtime to take class ring orders and cap & gown orders.  Look for the Jostens table across from the Bookstore.

ALL Sophomores and Juniors & Seniors who have NOT met the standard are REQUIRED by the Arizona Department of Education to take the AIMS test.  Testing Dates
AIMS Writing:  Tuesday, February 28, 8:05-11:30 am
AIMS Reading:  Wednesday, February 29, 8:05-10:25 am

Aims tip of the day:  Go to the Homework Assistance Lab Mondays , Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school in rooms 118 & 119 to help in areas of AIMS you have not passed.

The JROTC Rifle Team members competed at the Army Air Rifle
Championship Match this past weekend at Camp Perry, Ohio.
The team finished 2nd of 15 teams at Camp Perry; and 16th of 34 teams
overall who also competed at Anniston, AL.
Zach Kofron finished 1st of 77 shooters at Camp Perry; 6th of 178
shooters overall.  As a result of Zach's performance this weekend, he
also earned his Junior Distinguished Shooting Badge.  Zach will
represent the US Army Cadet Command at the All Services National match
at Anniston, AL on March 24-25th.  Clayton Walker finished 12th at Camp Perry; 74th overall.  Ryan Haywood finished 14th at Camp Perry; 80th overall.  Tyler Miazga finished 49th at Camp Perry; 138th overall.  Zoe Abrahamson finished 56th at Camp Perry; 145th overall.  Well done, Cadets.  And good shooting at Nationals, Zach!

 

Juniors & Seniors, Gateway Community College will be on campus tomorrow, ASU on Wednesday, MCC & Wyotech Automotive Institute on Thursday, and South Mountain Community College on Friday.  You must sign up in guidance or the library in order to attend.

 

We Define Dance Team" will be having practice after school this Thursday - after school until 4:00 in the dance room.

C.A.R.E.  will have a meeting today at lunch in room 259.  Come be the hero of an animal. 

C.A.R.E. is having a drive for hygiene products for animals!  Donate in room 259.  All donations go to the Humane Society. 

Come to the Marcos de Niza talent show this Friday at 6:30 p.m, February 17th.  Tickets will be $5 per person. 

Attention all Sophomores and Juniors!  SAT or ACT….That is the question?  Would you like to attend a free workshop and find out which of these college entrance tests is best for you?  Come pick up a flyer from the Guidance Office for more information.
Do you need help passing AIMS Reading, Writing or Mathematics?
Juniors & Seniors who have not passed one or more of AIMS tests are eligible for FREE tutoring.  See Mrs. Lang in Guidance for more information.
Students make sure you have your athletic pass AND your ID for entry to games.
Students remember there is a place for pedestrians to cross the street on Lakeshore and on Guadalupe.   Please follow the law and cross at the crosswalks to avoid injury from oncoming cars. This is going to be enforced.
No student pickup or drop off in parking lots.
Reminder if you do not have a class because of late start or evit, you must wait in the cafeteria or library.
ALL classes/courses taken outside a student’s regular schedule, MUST have prior approval. ALL students wishing to take a class off campus must visit their guidance counselor and pick up an Alternative Credit Form, have it signed and approved. Failure to do this will result in the denial of outside credit placed on transcripts.
Did you know that Marcos de Niza has a Silent Witness hotline?  It can be a very useful tool when you have information that you are afraid to share.  You can call and leave an anonymous message with any information that may be useful in helping us solve a problem or if you know of a problem that we need to know about you can leave a message there.  The number is 480-838-3200 extension is 47675.
Students in the 100 and 200 buildings, we appreciate your cooperation about food and drink as well as yourselves inside the buildings.  We know this will take some time to get used to but remember the buildings are for learning not socializing and eating.  Thanks.
Now is the time to tackle tests with confidence, get into the colleges you want, and score the scholarships you deserve!  Prepare using the online Testing and Education Reference Center (TERC)!
STUDENTS IF YOU ARE LATE FOR CLASS AND WITHOUT A PARENT OR GUARDIAN GO TO SWEEP.  CALLS ARE NOT ACCEPTED. 
Students taking Pinnacle Charter School Correspondence Courses
Pinnacle is not NCAA accredited, so any courses students take there will not apply to the National Collegiate Athletic Association requirements.
Free Lunch
Do you have questions about how to get free lunch?

Students who Carpool:
If you carpool to school, and you would like to park in one of the designated carpool spaces in the student parking lot, come to the Activities Office to fill out a registration form. You must be registered to park in a carpool space.

Vending Machines:
- When you use the vending machines, only put in change or one dollar bills
- The machines will not give change for any bill larger than one dollar

This is an important announcement for 17 & 18 year old men:
Federal law says that every young man must register with Selective Service within a month of when they turn 18.  Those who fail to register may be denied student loans, government jobs and driver’s licenses in most states.  In addition, if you are a male immigrant seeking to become a citizen, you must also register.  You can get a Selective Service registration card at you r local post office or register online at www.sss.gov.  Visit the Guidance Office if you have any questions. 

ELECTRONIC DEVICES
.     Cell Phones and I-Pods should not be used and will result in referrals.  They may be confiscated.
.     By having them on campus you run the risk of having those expensive Items Stolen. 
 
DON'T RUN THE RISK!
Do not go to the nurse for a Late Pass.
You are still going to be marked absent if you are 10 minutes late!  Regardless!!

During the school year Student ID cards are available daily during lunch and after school.

All students are issued a student identification card (good for four years) upon enrollment in MdN.

Replacement cards are $5.00 at the bookstore.
