Bio:
I have been focused on the aspect of education since I was robbed of a proper education in the Chicago Public School system. My earliest job in education was when I was fortunate to work in and eventually supervise a before and after school program during my undergrad.
My journey, that I look forward to continuing for some time, started on the Northside of Chicago, Illinois in a neighborhood by the name of Rodgers' Park.
Since birth to the end of fifth grade, I resided in this area and was a product of Chicago Public Schools. As a kid growing up, I had a remarkable time feeling like a gifted student based on the words used to describe me and treatment from teachers. I was placed in gifted classes and always experienced the enrichment programs. However, during the summer of the fifth and sixth grade, my family and I moved about five miles north to a suburb by the name of Evanston where I realized the inequities of education. After a short semester in the new schooling system, I was labeled as a "special needs" student based on my abysmal reading scores and lack of effort. It would seem that the Chicago Public Schools' expectations had handicapped me in the eyes of more competitive students and educators. It was at this point in my life that I decided that I wanted to be involved in education to help and ensure fairness for hundreds of thousands of future students. In efforts during my journey, I graduated from Butler University with my undergraduate degree in History, became certified to teach at Trinity Christian College, obtained my Master's from Indiana University and became a certified leader in education as a principal. Professionally, I have taught at all levels from sixth through college, special needs to college preparatory. During the past few years, I have worked on the administrative level in high schools and have been fortunate enough to be on the leadership and founding teams of two starter schools. One of the schools has growing acclaim and the other, my current position, I have high expectations for. Besides that, my fantastic family includes one great wife, two squirrely boys, and two of the cutest Yorkies on the planet. We have recently moved to the Mesa, Arizona area and we are absolutely loving the new locale!
