Family & Consumer Sciences at Mountain Pointe provides diverse academic and technological opportunities for students which emphasize critical thinking and decision making skills in such areas as wellness, human relations, parenting, and employability. Extensive exploration and practical application in these areas enhance and promote success among our students as they become active members of our ever changing society.

Program Highlights:

  • CubbiesHERO: Students enhance their education through work experience outside the classroom. The
class covers personal management skills, business practices and procedures, human
relations and career selection. Students are released from school afternoons to work on an
approved job at least 15 hours per week. The job chosen by the student must parallel the
curriculum of the program strand he/she has followed.
  • Advanced Child Development: In Advanced Child Development, students will study the development of children, ages three through five. Students will develop lesson plans and activities to be used in the child care center. Health and safety issues will be addressed, as well as the study of exceptional children. Career possibilities in the field of childcare will be researched. Students may experience applications supporting the Arizona Academic Math Standards. Upon completion of this course, students will be in readiness to secure a food handler's card and apply for childcare certification. Students enrolling in this course will also enroll in the Advanced Child Development Lab.
